سال 1908 اکراین شاهد تولد نابغه ای بود که زیباترین ستایش ها از بتهوون را درطول زندگی خود به انجام رساند. دیوید اویستراخ (David Oistrakh) شناختی بسیار عمیق از آثار بتهوون داشت و در نهایت استادی آثار او را اجرا می کرد. چه آنگاه که در سال 1962 به همراهی اوبورین مجموعه سوناتهای ویولن و پیانو او را بطور کامل اجرا و ضبط نمود و چه آنگاه که از سال 1950 و به مدت پانزده سال یعنی تا سال 1965 میلادی با ارکسترهای مختلف کنسرتو ویولن او را در نهایت ظرافت نواخت.علاقه اویستراخ به اجرای موسیقی بتهوون تنها منحصر به این آثار نیست؛ چنانکه شاهدیم اویستراخ رومانس های ویولن و ارکستر، تریپل کنسرتو برای ویولن و ویولنسل و پیانو به همراهی ارکستر و تریوهای سازی و… را به دفعات با دیگر هنرمندان اجرا نمود و یا آثار ارکسترال مانند سمفونی چهارم یا قطعه اگمونت او را رهبری کرد. شیفتگی اویستراخ نسبت به بتهوون و آثارش باعث اجراهایی شد که می توان از آنها به عنوان "استادانه ترین"اجراهای بتهوون در قرن اخیر نام برد.در اجرای کنسرتو ویولن بتهوون، شاهدیم که اویستراخ نقاط اوجی که در میانه موومان اول این کنسرتو وجود دارد را، به سادگی رها نمی سازد. او آنچنان با لطافت ویولن می نوازد و ساز او چنان با ارکستر در فرازها و فرودهای موسیقی در می آمیزد که گویی او شعری زیبا را به تنهایی می خواند و سکوت شنونده را فرا می گیرد.

 دیوید اویستراخ از پدر و مادری هنرمند متولد شد؛ پدرش نوازنده ویولن و مادرش تکخوان اپرا بود. او در سن پنج سالگی نواختن ویولن را نزد استولارسکی آغاز کرد و از سن دوازده سالگی اجرای کنسرت های خود را در اتحاد جماهیر شوروی سابق آغاز نمود.او در بیست و پنج سالگی با تامارا ازدواج کرد و حاصل این ازدواج، تولد پسرشان ایگور بود که خود ویولنیستی حرفه ای گردید و بعدها با پدرش کنسرت هایی اجرا نمود.

زندگی هنری دیوید اویستراخ سرشار از موفقیت ها در مسابقات نوازندگی است. کسب مقام اول نوازندگی اتحاد جماهیر شوروی در سال 1935وکسب جایزه اول مسابقات بین المللی ایزایی در سال 1937 نمونه هایی از این مورد هستند. در آن مسابقه 68 ویولنیست از 21 کشور با هم رقابت کردند. اویستراخ در سال 1934 به سمت پرفسوری در کنسرواتوار مسکو رسید و در آنجا به تدریس پرداخت.

شیوه نواختن و همینطور رهبری آثار موزار توسط او به گونه ایست که مسائل مربوط به موزیکالیته و نوانس ها و بطور کلی سبک نواختن موسیقی موزار به بهترین وجه در این اجراها رخ می نماید. چه آنگاه که اویستراخ در یک سونات ویولن و پیانوی موزار ویولن می نوازد و چه آنگاه که کنسرتو پیانویی از موزار را رهبری می کند.دیوید اویستراخ یک ویولنیست با رپرتوار کاری" بسیار گسترده" است، بطوریکه او آثار گوناگون هفتاد و پنج آهنگساز دوران های مختلف را که دارای سبک های متفاوتی هستند، در طول زندگی خود اجرا و ضبط نموده است.او نابغه ای بسیار کوشا و پرکار بود. مجموع آثارمختلف آهنگسازان که او دراجرای آنها شرکت داشته- و در آن آثار، جایگاهای متفاوتی نظیر تکنوازی یا همنوازی در قطعات دو نوازی، سه نوازی و… و یا رهبری ارکستر را برعهده داشته است- به بیش از سیصد و ده اثر مختلف می رسد که این اجراها بصورت ضبط شده از او موجود می باشند.جالب این که وی بسیاری از این آثار را در خلال سالهای مختلف" چندین بار" با هنرمندان مختلف اجرا کرده است. برای مثال، او دوازده بار با ارکسترهای مختلف در مقام سولیست کنسرتو ویولن چایکوفسکی را اجرا نمود و دو دفعه هم این قطعه را رهبری کرده است.

فستیوال بهاره پراگ، از اویستراخ برای رهبری "سمفونی نهم" بتهوون در سال1975 دعوت بعمل آورد، دعوتی که بی نتیجه ماند و متاسفانه هیچگاه عملی نشد، زیرا در سال 1974 او به علت بروز حمله قلبی در جریان سفر به آمستردام، درگذشت.
